Military veterans are a great fit for the correctional settings because the structure is often like what they have experienced in the military. The IDOC embraces the family atmosphere to tackle challenging scenarios put before them just like the United States Armed Forces; The “brotherhood” concept is no stranger to the IDOC, making it a smooth transition for military personnel. I have been in the IDOC for 5 years and have had 3 different promotions. I have multiple mentors and peers that have guided me to my current success. I enjoy my job duties/contribution to the IDOC and look forward to my future career opportunities.
