The a Hire a Hero Program afforded me the opportunity to change my career path and get into DFAS. After spending 4 years in Army as Air Defense, I had no prior knowledge of the personnel side and the Hire a Hero Program was able to help get me in the door as a GS-4. I spent a year as GS-4, before Once again using the Hire a Hero Program and getting a GS-5 position with the Defense Military Pay Office in Indianapolis. While there, I was able to get a promotion to Lead Military Pay Technician. I am now a Lead Technician thanks to the opportunities afforded to me with the Hire A Hero Program.
