Fort Wayne Police Department



The Fort Wayne Police Department, in partnership with our community, will strive to protect the life, property and personal liberties of all individuals. We believe that the overall quality of life for all residents will improve through the deterrence of criminal activity and an understanding of the diversity of cultures within this community. Furthermore, we recognize the need for fair and impartial enforcement of the law with attention given to the highest possible quality of service delivery to the community. The proud tradition of the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) began in 1829 with a single “Village Marshal”. That tradition continues today with 500 sworn officers and approximately 62 civilians. The FWPD is led by Police Chief Scott Caudill.

Being both a military veteran and a Police Officer are great honors. There are a lot of skills you learn as a solider, that carry over into law enforcement: Attention to detail, emotional control, marksmanship, defensive tactics, diversity, physical fitness, and unit cohesion; just to name a few. Most importantly however, is the service mentality. A life of service and sacrifice are noble virtues that few professions offer. The ability to give back to your community, to use the skills developed over a lifetime, for positive change is unparalleled. The life-long relationships that you foster in the community and with your Brothers and Sisters in Blue are priceless.
